How should you prepare before entering a boss room?
Enter with a weapon you understand, useful health or protection, and enough resources to activate your equipped tools. Revisit reachable supplies before committing to the fight. Check your current movement as well: an extra jump or flight changes where you can stand, but you still need a route away from incoming attacks.
| Preparation | Decision to make |
|---|---|
| Health and shields | Collect useful recovery or consider a healing purchase before an optional gamble |
| Weapon reach | Know the distance from which you can hit the boss |
| Attack behaviour | Test whether you can keep dealing damage while moving |
| Curio and Passive | Check the input, effect, and activation cost you intend to use |
| Movement | Test the jump or flight your current setup provides |
The beginner guide covers resource management on the way to the fight. A strong damage effect is more useful when you reach the arena prepared to stay alive.
Which early bosses should you learn to recognise?
Learn the names of the early encounters and remember that later floors can bring stronger versions of those enemies. Fako, Molly, Kurita, and Brode are useful names to recognise while learning. When a related boss appears later, watch the actual attack behaviour again instead of assuming the earlier fight taught you every pattern.
| Early version | Theme | Stronger version |
|---|---|---|
| Fako | Esports | Dendy |
| Molly | Blindbox | Labobo |
| Kurita | Emojis | Nicolas |
| Brode | Decks | Kazuki |
These pairs belong to the early boss pools. Treat recognising the name as a starting point: position, range, and the attacks currently on screen still decide your next move.
What should you observe during the opening attacks?
Watch where danger appears and where you can move without crossing it. Notice whether your weapon can reach the boss from that space, then attack while preserving the route you need to dodge.
If you are being forced too close, reduce the time spent chasing damage. Reposition first and attack from a place where you can respond to the next threat.
How do you respond when the boss changes its attack behaviour?
Reassess your position when a new attack or weapon appears, and prioritise learning its reach before resuming sustained damage. Frontline bosses can manifest a random Void-forged weapon in their second phase. Watch what that weapon adds to the fight, then change your movement or firing position to keep an escape route available.
The Void Power entry in the game codex describes this second-phase weapon system. Use the behaviour you see to decide how to respond:
| What you see | Useful response |
|---|---|
| A new projectile pattern | Check its direction and look for space before moving through it |
| An attack reaching your firing position | Relocate rather than continuing to stand there for damage |
| Effects obscuring the arena | Follow incoming threats and your character’s position |
| A change in safe movement space | Adjust where you attack from and avoid getting trapped |
Which build tools can make the fight easier to manage?
Choose tools that improve positioning, keep damage reliable, or support the companions already in your build. Flight can open more firing positions, and a weapon with companion interactions gives your squad a clear role. Read an immunity’s exact scope before relying on it, then continue watching the attacks coming from the boss.
| Tool | Benefit | Preparation habit |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnosis Certificate | Flight and a 10% critical chance increase | Test airborne movement and keep watching projectiles |
| Noxmare | Hatchmon hits contribute to its poison marks | Keep useful companions active while maintaining your attacks |
| Tin Daddy | Protection against your own explosions | Continue avoiding enemy damage |
| James’s second weapon slot | An additional weapon to cover a different attack situation | Practise switching before entering |
Use the Agent guide to check the ability behind your equipment choices. Pickups work best when they support a setup you can operate while dodging.
How do boss unlocks and route choices affect a run?
Separate unlocking a boss from choosing the route that reaches it. Earlier victories open later encounters, while the safehouse after the fifth floor lets you choose among available routes. The current Faith and Hatchmon conditions can affect the next encounter, so decide which route you want before spending or changing the resources it needs.
| Route or unlock | What to account for |
|---|---|
| Trojan → Talos | Defeat Trojan to unlock Talos |
| Talos → Apollo | Defeat Talos to unlock Apollo |
| Apollo route | Regular Eris can lead to Hyperion after you have defeated Dark Eris once |
| Hermes route with fewer than 10 Hatchmon | Leads toward regular Aphrodite; defeating Dark Aphrodite unlocks the continuation to Theia |
| Hermes route with at least 10 Hatchmon | Leads to Dark Aphrodite once that encounter is unlocked; the Dark route ends there |
The current route map covers the branching floors. Choose an available portal for the encounter you want and keep track of any required condition before the preceding boss falls.
Use the Hatchmon guide to plan hatching support and companion recovery before choosing the Hermes route.
How does the Dark Aphrodite condition work?
Defeat regular Aphrodite to unlock Dark Aphrodite. For the Dark route, have at least 10 Hatchmon when you defeat Hermes. The official Wonder Flow update specifies both the unlock and the companion requirement.
Plan the squad before entering the Hermes fight. Check your hatching tools and companion recovery support while there is still time to prepare.
Follow the Dark Aphrodite route walkthrough for the prerequisite, squad-building tools, and the final Hermes preparation checklist.
How should you approach a boss in co-op?
Agree on useful pickups and preparation before entering, then keep each player’s movement and ability manageable during the fight. Co-op supports up to four players, so a busy arena can demand more attention. Choose complementary tools, communicate a resource shortage, and avoid taking a pickup before checking who can use it effectively.
- Discuss the next purchase. A player short on health may benefit more from recovery than an optional build item.
- Check equipped tools. Know which weapon or Curio you intend to use and whether its cost is available.
- Keep track of your own position. Follow incoming attacks even when other players are dealing substantial damage.
- Review the attempt together. Identify whether range, movement, or resource spending caused the most difficulty before starting again.
Learn one useful adjustment at a time. Reaching the next fight with a comfortable setup and a clear plan is more reliable than depending on a particular rare pickup.
